VISUAL EXAMINATION

In a visit we make an indepth visual exam. We evaluate if there is any problem of focusing (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) and assess if the visual system works properly and efficiently. Occasionally there may exist a proper focusing (absence of diopters) but even so if there are symptoms of eyestrain (headache, itchy eyes, difficulty of maintaining the text focused while reading, occasional double vision, lack of concentration, etc.) These are signs that our visual system does not work properly. All of these problems are only perceived thorough an exhaustive visual examination.

PEDIATRICS OPTOMETRY

Having the sight of a child examinated by an eyecare professional can help to get the highest success at school, being that  80% of what a child learns comes through his eyes. An earliest detection of any visual anomaly is crucially important in order to prevent future learning disorders, hence the importance of a complete visual exam adapted to the child’s age.

According to the recommendation of the American Association of Optometry, it is advisable that the optometrist examines child vision according to the following guideline:

Between the birth and two years: it is advisable to make an exploration at the age of six months and if there is any problem, visits after six months.

Between two and five years: it is advisable an exploration at age of three (beginning of Kindergarten) if there is any problem follow the instructions of the professional.

Between six and eighteen years: a visual exam should be done before starting school (beginning of Elementary School), and after that, every two years. And if there are visual problems, it is advisable to do it every year.

CONTACT LENSES ADAPTATION

According to our methodology, we never choose your contact lenses randomly, but always make a detailed study of your case so as to offer those contact lenses which are more suitable for your eye and your way of life.

Visual examination, measurement and control of the eye’s structure that come into contact with the contact lense (cornea, eyelid, conjunctiva, etc.) and the analysis of your teardrop, together with some aspects of your everyday life, such as work, hobbies, practise of sports and the surroundings where you live, give us all the needed information for an adaptation of your contact lenses with your needs. In the same way, attending to your particular conditions and the recommended contact lenses, we choose the proper maintenance solution to clean and disinfect your lenses.

And now it is time for practise. Before we give you your new contact lenses, we spend the necessary time that you need for learning how to put and remove them, following the correct technique, as well as everything about their handling and preservation.

Our target is to achieve that you use your lenses comfortably and moreover safely!

TONOMETRY

It consists in determining the inner pressure of the eye and it is fundamental in the early detection of glaucoma, this is an eye disease that causes a progressive damage to the optic nerve, the part that transmits all images to the brain.

Half of the patients with glaucoma do not know that they suffer it, because it does not produce evident symptoms, as pain or an abrupt loss of vision, for the most part of the cases, affected individuals are not conscious that suffer glaucoma until they loose an important part of the field of vision. This disease multiplies by four the risk of falling and represents a serious danger for driving.

Tonometry allows us to detect the suspicion but on its own it is not enough to determine that a patient suffers glaucoma. It should be complimented with and study of the fundus (retinography) and a field of vision (perimetry).

Risk factors are:

    Age (older than 60 years).

    Family history of glaucoma.

    Eye hypertension.

    Myopia or high hyperopia.

    Eye trauma.

    Coloured or Asian races.

Our protocol of eye exploration always includes tonometry in order to detect the suspicion of glaucoma and deriving you to your ophthalmologist in order to have the appropriate diagnosis.
